Mike is a forty-something and divorced. He lives in his the same house he once lived in with his family: his old wife and several children. His previous job was at ACNE Inventory and Retail as a retail and inventory assistant. His hobbies include sleeping, drinking, cursing, and masturbating. He longs for the days when he had sex with his wife.

My inspiration for Mike came from years of depressed hopelessness, no doubt inevitably going to happen to me. This way, I can laugh at those who pretended I had promise, shouting “I told you so! I knew what I’d become!”
Thurston Joseph Moore (born July 25, 1958 in Coral Gables, Florida) is an American musician best known as a singer, songwriter and guitarist of Sonic Youth. He has participated in many solo and group collaborations outside of Sonic Youth, as well as running a small record label, Ecstatic Peace!.

I wanted Mike to have a best friend character. Because of how I see myself in Mike, I gave myself the freedom to imagine having my own freaking idol become my best friend; that manifested itself as Thurston becoming Mike’s best friend. The relationship between the two is uncanny, as Mike is a disgusting slob and the character of Thurston is a pleasant sidekick. Even though he gets the short end of the stick, he still sticks it out and thus a sweet new duo is born. That’s the power of friendship! Gaaaay.
