Richie Holdick was born in Brooklyn and moved to Toronto, Ontario with his mother and father. In later years, he would be joined by his sister Meredith and brother Levi. Being a mutt of both Russian and English descent, along with heavy heritage in New York, Richie was heavily influenced by harsh European traditions with a thick Brooklyn attitude. This lead to his unorthodox style of living, including drumming for early Toronto-based noise/thrash groups like Puppetvomit and Orange Yellow Redd.
After a year of mulling around at high school, he took to living abroad at places of his heritage, touring parts of England and Russia, as well as Israel and Palestine. Returning home, his parents urged him to follow his dream through practical means: drawing.
He now attends York University for its design program. Before creating Mike is Divorced, he tried his hand at rare offshoots “TurtleParty”, about three roommates in wheelchairs, and “Lump”, a Garfield-esque satire. Richie now full-time devotes his comic musings to Mike is Divorced, while still freelance designing for companies and playing in a new band, tentatively called Dirty Dirty Things & People, featuring his girlfriend Amanda Hocken and friends Ivan Raczycki and Tommy Clap
